Description: Soela cruise SO 03/81 was undertaken to continue an acoustic and trawl survey for pelagic resources in the Great Australian Bight. Primary objectives were to collect biological information on pelagic fish catches particularly Scomber australasicus, Sardinops neopilchardus, Trachurus declivis and T. mccullochi. To examine dispersion and diel variation in feeding habits and to collect detailed hydrological data from areas of observed pelagic fish concentrations and from selected stations along the survey track. Secondary objectives were to examine the distribution and collect biological information on selected elasmobranchs, and to collect ommastrephid squid for taxonomy and biological studies.
