C. Stanley (CSIRO) | Courageous cruise 052 was undertaken to study variation in catch rates and species compositions according to time of day, depth, and previous sampling pressure, in the Australian North West Shelf between Broome and the Monte Bello Islands, using demersal trawling, to study the thermal structure of the water column using XBTs, and to obtain biological material for selected fish species for more intensive study. The voyage took place between Broome and Dampier, from 17-31 July 1979. |

Sainsbury (CSIRO) | Courageous cruise 049 was undertaken to survey the demersal fish community of the Australian North West Shelf between North West Cape and Broome, using demersal trawling, and also to conduct hydrological transects across the shelf for comparison with 1978 data. The voyage took place between Fremantle-Port Hedland-Broome, from 30 April to 22 May 1979. |
Cour 048 (1979) [details] |
J. Maxwell (CSIRO) | Courageous cruise 048 was undertaken to investigate currents and water masses off the south west corner of Australia, using XBT transects and hydrological sampling west from Cape Naturaliste and Cape Leeuwin. A second objective, to survey the area between Albany and Cape Leeuwin for potential trawl grounds, was not completed due to bad weather. The voyage took place between Esperance and Fremantle, from 12 to 17 April 1979. |
Cour 047 (1979) [details] |
J. Maxwell (CSIRO) | Courageous cruise 045 was the third in a series of 3 cruises undertaken to study fish species distribution in the Great Australian Bight, in this instance the eastern Great Australian Bight between longitudes 124 and 129 deg E, in in water depths to 400 m, using demersal and pelagic trawling. Associated hydrological and plankton samples were also taken. The voyage took place between Esperance-Great Australian Bight-Esperance, from 22 March to 10 April 1979. |
Cour 046 (1979) [details] |
D. Rimmer (CSIRO) | Courageous cruise 046 was the second in a series of 3 cruises undertaken to study fish species distribution in the Great Australian Bight, in this instance the western Great Australian Bight between longitudes 124 and 130 deg E, together with additional sampling between longitudes 130 and 134 deg E to complete the study carried out on cruise 045, in in water depths to 400 m, using demersal and pelagic trawling. Associated hydrological and plankton samples were also taken. The voyage took place between Adelaide and Esperance, from 22 February to 14 March 1979. |
Cour 045 (1979) [details] |
T.R. Cowper (CSIRO) | Courageous cruise 045 was the first in a series of 3 cruises undertaken to study fish species distribution in the Great Australian Bight, in this instance the eastern Great Australian Bight between longitudes 130 and 134 deg E, in water depths to 400 m, using demersal and pelagic trawling. Associated hydrological and plankton samples were also taken. The voyage took place between Adelaide-Thevenard-Adelaide, from 25 January to 13 February 1979. |
Cour 039 (1978) [details] |
K. Williams (CSIRO) | Courageous cruise 039 was undertaken to search for skipjack, yellowfin and southern bluefin tuna, in a region off the New South Wales coast north and south of Sydney (between Tacking Point and Bermagui) and to carry out associated hydrological sampling including XBTs, nutrients, zooplankton and chlorophyll, to study phenomena related to water masses and fronts, and to deploy a satellite-tracked buoy in an eddy off the southern NSW coast. The voyage took place from Sydney-Bermagui area-Sydney, from 9 to 13 October 1978. |
