Description: Courageous cruise 034 was the first of three cruises undertaken to survey the demersal and pelagic fish community of the Australian North West Shelf, in this instance between North West Cape and Port Hedland, using pelagic and demersal trawling, and also to conduct XBT, nutrient and plankton transects across the shelf. An additional objective was to take light attenuation readings off the western West Australia coast. The voyage took place from Fremantle and then from Carnarvon to Port Hedland, from 2 to 22 May 1978.
