Taxon Notes: | Song et al 2017 demonstrated that the once cosmopolitan species Atractoscion aequidens (Cuvier, 1830) was actually a complex of four species. The true Atractoscion aequidens (Cuvier, 1830) is endemic to South Africa and the name Atractoscion atelodus (Günther 1867) is resurrected for the species endemic to south-eastern Australia, which occurs from Double Island Point, Qld (25°26'S) south to Long Bay, Sydney, NSW (33°51'E) according to the Australian Faunal Directory. Song et al 2017 also described two new species, Atractoscion macrolepis (Angola) and Atractoscion microlepis (Gulf of Oman, Arabian Sea). | ||||||||
