Taxon Notes: | Griffiths & Heemstra (1995) noted A. hololepidotus had been used for 4 species, 3 restricted to western Indian Ocean and/or eastern Atlantic (A. coronus, A.hololepidotus, A. inodorus) and a widespread Indo-Pacific species, A. japonicus. They didn't find significant differences between populations of A. japonicus from South Africa, Japan and Australia, but noted further genetic research was required.
Scientific Name Notes: | Prior to 1995, this taxon was most commonly cited as A. hololepidotus, but in pre-1960 Australian works has also been cited as A. antarcticus (see Griffiths and Heemstra, 1995).
