Expected species depth range is from 314 to 773 m.
Taxon Notes:Added based on specimens collected in Coral Sea, Qld (off Townsville, 18 42 S to south of Saumarez Reef, 22 36 S) in 314-773 m. Yamanoue (2016) moved all Neoscombrops spp to the genus Verilus. This code (37 311210) was assigned to Plectranthias kelloggi (for Sih et al 2017, Table 1), but that species is now coded as 37 311179 (P. retrofasciatus) after being resolved by Gill et al 2021.
