Description: Soela cruise SO 1/82 was undertaken for a squid and fish survey including plankton and hydrological sampling in continental slope waters of the Tasman Sea. Sampling was carried out in five areas off the NSW coast and in an area off the northeast coast of Tasmania. Samples were collected from midwater and demersal trawls, and hand jigs. Specimens were identified and measurements made. Squid gonads and stomachs were retained for further analysis. Shark stomach contents were also retained for further analysis. Specimens of many fish species were collected and examined to provide supplementary descriptive information for CSIRO's "Field Guide to Trawl Fishes of Temperate Waters". Hydrological sampling was carried out using XBTs.
