Taxon Notes:

Previously lumped under Trimma tevagae. Based on material examined by Winterbottom (2016), T. caudomaculatum occurs from Ryukyu Islands, Japan SE to Solomons and SWW to Rowley Shoals, WA (only Aust record, in 35-40m depth), excl. Palau, but incl. Philippines. Based on underwater photographs, appears to range at least as far west as the Maldive Islands (see, e.g. Randall & Goren, 1993, Pl. 4G), but specimens and tissues required to test this ID.
