Expected species depth range is from 0 to 40 m.
Taxon Notes:The species is very similar to Vanderhorstia mertensi from the western Indian Ocean and no direct comparison has been made of the two species. It is possible that V. mertensi is confined to the Red Sea and western Indian Ocean. Tentatively only Vanderhorstia dorsomacula is recognised from Australia, but further work is needed on the genus in Australia (AFD draft text, 13.9.18).
