Scientific Name Notes: | Melo (2009, Copeia) noted that Chiasmodon niger was restricted to the tropical and temperate Atlantic. Bray & Hoese's (2006) records of C. niger from off NSW are C. microcephalus. C. microcephalus is known from southern parts of the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific, and the southern Ocean from 32 to 54 deg S. In Australia, it is known from off central NSW to off Tas. Based on distributions given by Melo (2009), other Chiasmodon species may occur in Australia. | ||||||||
