Taxon Notes:

In Australia, this species is known from at least Cocos Keeling Islands, Christmas Island, Cartier Reef (all eastern Indian Ocean) and the Great Barrier Reef, Qld. All pre-2009 records of Halichoeres ornatissimus in Australia actually refer to Halichoeres claudia. Randall & Rocha (2009) noted that the true Halichoeres ornatissimus was restricted to the Hawaiian and Johnston Islands.
