Expected species depth range is from 9 to 36 m.
Taxon Notes:Fraser & Allen (2010) confirmed the presence of this species in Australia from 2 NMV specimens from central and northern Qld. Previous authors (e.g. Gon, 2000; Allen et al 2006) regarded this species as a synonym of Apogon nigripinnis (now Apogonichthyoides nigripinnis), which has not been confirmed from Australia.
