Taxon Notes:	Sazonov & Williams (2001) included this species in their review of Alepocephaloid fishes of the Australian continental slope, based on Gloerfelt-Tarp & Kailola's (1984) record of M. multipunctata (a synonym of M. schmidti) from the Timor Sea (08 45 S, 114 17 E). However, this locality is near Bali in Indonesian waters, so specimens are required to confirm its presence in Australia.
