Expected species depth range is from 125 to 175 m.
Taxon Notes:The only known Australian record attributed to Bathylagoides argyrogaster is SAMA F 2302 collected during the BANZARE expedition on 17 March 1931 off southwestern Tasmania (44 11 S, 143 36 E in a water depth of 4279m depth). Through xray and examination of other features, this specimen was confirmed as Bathylagichthys longipinnis by Ofer Gon & John Pogonoski in May 2022. There are no verified records of Bathylagoides argyrogaster outside the Atlantic Ocean.
