Taxon Notes:Keith & Mennesson (2020) reviewed the genus Giuris, recognising 8 species. The species previously referred to as Giuris margaritaceus (Valenciennes, 1837) was found to be Giuris aporocephalus (Macleay 1884), which is known from Australia, PNG & Solomon Islands. The true Giuris margaritaceus is known from Southwest Pacific: New Ireland (Papua New Guinea), Gaua (Vanuatu), Solomon Islands, Palau, Philippines and Indonesia (Ambon, Ceram, Halmahera, Sulawesi), but not Australia (Keith & Mennesson, 2020; Catalog of Fishes, accessed 21.1.2022). In Australia, G. aporocephalus is confirmed from Claudie River near Lockhart (12°50'S) to Bakers Creek, Mackay (21°11'S), Qld, and literature records are known from the western side of Cape York from Embley River, Weipa (12°50'S, 141°55'E) to Jardine River (10°55'S, 142°13'E) [AFD online, accessed 21.1.22].
