Description: First in a series of 3 cruises examining the distribution of larval oceanic squid across the continental shelf and slope between Sydney and Brisbane. Plankton survey for larval squid, on 7 transects across the continental shelf between Sydney and Brisbane. CTD casts were also taken at trawl sites on 4 of the sections, along with continuous recording of surface fluorescence, temperature and salinity. Additional sampling was undertaken for planktonic foraminifera (for S. Andrijanic, University of NSW); larval fishes (B. Bruce & T. Miskowitz, University of NSW); pleagic specimens for lipid analyses (J. Volkman, CSIRO Oceanography); and for larvae of the spanner crab Ranina ranina (for Queensland Fisheries).
