IN2026_V04    - is a Marine National Facility voyage

Title: Quaternary evolution of the Darumbal and Woppaburra Sea Country in the Southern Great Barrier Reef

Period: 2026-07-28 04:00 to 2026-08-19 22:00 UTC

Duration: 22.75 days

From: Brisbane To: Brisbane

Region: Queensland Coast; Great Barrier Reef; East Australian Current

Ship: Investigator (RV) [details]

Description: Scientific objectives 1) Characterise the Quaternary evolution of Darumbal and close neighbour Woppaburra Sea Country and integrate with traditional knowledge to contribute to understanding the cultural heritage values of the SGBR. 2) Assess the Quaternary evolution and development of the coral reefs in the SGBR. 3) Study the interaction of the modern ocean currents with the reefs and seascape of the SGBR – to help validate and improve eReefs models. 4) Atmospheric measurements for the SGBR will contribute to the Reef Restoration Adaptation Project (RRAP)

Leader: Helen Bostock

Projects:

  • Quaternary evolution of the Darumbal and Woppaburra Sea Country in the Southern Great Barrier Reef [details] Primary

  • Chumbucket: low tech, high return sampling for phytoplankton diversity [details] Piggy-back

  • Glider oceanographic survey in the Capricorn Channel [details] Piggy-back

  • Globalising Marine Biodiversity Observations (GLOMBO): autonomous genomic sampling system [details] Piggy-back
