Description: Cruise FR 02/89 was undertaken to study fronts and exchange processes in Spencer Gulf, SA. To evaluate the extent of Bight water intrusion into the Gulf/Shelf zone, and its role in the dynamics of the frontal zone and to study summertime upwelling in south-eastern South Australian waters (Beachport in the north to Portland in the south). The South Australian Department of Fisheries' vessel, FRV Ngerin, joined the Franklin for periods (approx. 10 days) of simultaneous, coordinated activity. Survey methods included CTD profiles, ADCP, NOAA 11 satellite imagery and underway instrumentation. Numerous water, nutrient and chlorophyll samples were collected for analysis on board and for laboratory study. The two current meter moorings previously deployed on cruise FR 01/89 were recovered.
