Taxon Notes:

Randall et al (1997) excluded Canthigaster solandri from Australia, indicating that C. papua replaced that species in Australia, however, photos from R. Kuiter (1996) suggest both species occur in Australia and further studies are needed of Australian material to determine distribution of the two species. Confirmed from northern Qld south to Sydney, NSW (Australian Faunal Directory online accessed 30.6.20).
