Taxon Notes:Added based on an observation and photo from Christmas Island, Indian Ocean (Hobbs et al 2014) and specimens in NTM & WAM from west of Beagle Bay, WA (17 03'S) to the Evans Shoal Area, Timor Sea (129 30'E) in 200-310m depth (where depths provided). Given the taxonomic problems in the genus, identifications are considered tentative and it is unsure if the true name is Pontinus macrocephalus or Pontinus rhodochrous or whether both species are present in Australia.
