Scientific Name Notes:Motomura et al 2009 noted that Scorpaena bynoensis Richardson, 1845 (type locality: nw coast of Australia), Scorpaena stokesii Richardson, 1846 (type locality: coast of Australia) and Scorpaena bellicosa Castelnau, 1875 (type locality: Nicol Bay, Qld, Australia) are all junior synonyms of Parascorpaena aurita (not P. picta as previously stated by other authors such as Allen & Cross, 1989; Allen et al 2006).
