Expected species depth range is from 398 to 528 m.
Taxon Notes:Added based on CSIRO specimens from SE of Montague Island (36 18.57 S, 150 20.83 E), NSW to east of Wilsons Promontory (39° 6' 29.4" S, 148° 39' 7.8" E), Victoria in 398 to at least 528 m. Previously confused with Beryx splendens, which also occurs in Australia. Beryx mollis is widespread from off Somalia, Western Indian Ocean north to Japan and east to the Nazca Ridge, southeastern Pacific (Catalog of Fishes, 2025). It is likely more widespread in Australia than currently recognised.
