Taxon Notes:Shakhovskoy & Parin (2013) described two subspecies of Hirundichthys indicus - one from the western Indian Ocean (H. indicus indicus) and one from the eastern Indian Ocean (H. indicus orientalis). The latter subspecies has been recorded in the Christmas I territory (12°02 S, 107°16 E and 12°04 S, 105°44 E) by Shakhovskoy & Parin (2013).
