Expected species depth range is from 0 to 60 m.
Taxon Notes:Between 1999 and 2015, Scolecenchelys iredalei was regarded as a junior synonym of Scolecenchelys australis (37 068003), but Hibino & Kimura (2015) resurrected the species. In Australia it is confirmed from Murray Island (9°56'S, 144°04'E - AMS specimen identified by Kimura in 2015), and Michaelmas Cay (16 40 S, 145 56 E) southwards to One Tree Island (c. 23 30), Qld (Hibino & Kimura 2015).
