This species was originally described from Bermuda, and it is likely that records from Australia and other areas are the result of accidental introductions by shipping. Some records of this species are based on mis-identifications of other species in the genus, and until there is a detailed review of the whole group including genetics, the range of this and similar species should be regarded with caution.
