Title: FV Tasmanian Enterprise, (TE 06/90) Deepwater Acoustic and Camera Survey
Period: 1990-08-09 02:15 to 1990-08-15 06:00 UTC
Duration: 6.16 days
From: Triabunna To: Hobart
Region: St Helens Hill, NE Tasmania
Ship: Tasmanian Enterprise [details]
Description: Aims 1) Conduct an acoustic survey of the spawning aggregation on the Hill off St. Helens. 2) Identify photographica11y & with trawling (from FV Megisti Star) ostensible orange roughy marks at 700-850 m (750-800 m primarily) on bottom & in the water column. 3) Determine the target strength distribution of acoustic targets in the water column and over bottom in the vicinity of the spawning aggregation by lowering the transducer up to 500 m from the surface (Craig & Forbes 1972). 4) Obtain photographs of small targets in DSL & off bottom to determine their theoretical contribution to acoustic returns. 5) Calibrate the deepwater camera. 6) Calibrate the transducer (Wineglass Bay). 7) Obtain egg samples with 1.3 m diam ring net: from the hill & east. 8) Carry out an SDL cast in the vicinity of the hill.
