SS 11/2006 (alternative identifier: SS200611)    - is a Marine National Facility voyage

Title: Survey and monitoring for SE MPA’s including the Tasmanian Seamounts Marine Reserve

Period: 2006-10-31 03:00 to 2006-11-10 21:00 UTC

Duration: 10.75 days

From: Hobart To: Hobart

Region: Tasman sea

Ship: Southern Surveyor [details]

Description: Survey and monitoring for SE MPA's (proposed Huon and Tasman Fracture) including the Tasman Seamounts Marine Reserve. Leg 1. Allan Williams (CSIRO). Survey to support SER Estate inventory and management performance assessment. Interpretated benthic habitat maps, faunal inventories and documented conservation values in scientific reference sites from selected MPA areas in the SER Estate are provided. Acoustic swath data from Simrad EM300 used to identify sea bed habitat types. Ground truth maps by opportunistic sediment grabs, rock sled, epibenthic sleds and CMR SVS or MVS camera platform. Trap sets and LADCP casts were planned. Biological inventories at various scales of taxonomic resolution obtained by collection and curation of benthic invertibrates.

Leader: A. Williams (CSIRO)

Project: Characterising ecosystems of the deep continental shelf and slope seabed using optimised mapping techniques (Survey Only) [details]
