Description: The Mertz Polynya (1998) study was a project of Dr. Steve Rintoul (CSIRO) and Dr Nathan Bindoff (Antarctic CRC). The Mertz Polynya (67S, 145E) is an open patch in the otherwise frozen sea off the Adelie and George V coasts of Antarctica, off the Mertz Glacier.
