IN2026_V06    - is a Marine National Facility voyage

Title: The Pacific Ocean physical, biogeochemical and biological environmental diversity: Tropics to Pole evolution (P-TROPOE)

Period: 2026-09-27 15:00 to 2026-12-16 00:00 Local

Duration: 38.00 days

From: Lautoka To: Hobart

Region: Fiji; New Zealand; Pacific Ocean; Tasman Sea; Bass Strait; Tasmania Coast; Derwent Estuary

Ship: Investigator (RV) [details]

Description: The voyage will undertake multidisciplinary, full-depth physical, biogeochemical, and biological measurements to identify and quantify the key processes driving changes in the ocean’s environmental properties and biological systems; provide new insights into the interactive relationships that exist among physical, biogeochemical, and biological environments from pole to equator and surface to deep ocean, including the identification of potential tipping points and major disruptors; and extend high-precision baseline data sets used to calibrate autonomous observations such as floats, gliders, moorings, and satellites, as well as to improve Earth system models.

These data, combined with other observational data and numerical models, will allow for the detection and attribution of ocean change and for more reliable climate predictions and projections. These predictions are used to guide adaptation and mitigation policy, critically needed by Australia and Pacific Island nations.
