Title: Seafloor to Seabirds in the Coral Sea
Period: 2021-02-06 00:00 to 2021-03-06 00:00 Local
Duration: 28.00 days
From: Brisbane To: Brisbane
Ship: RV Falkor [details]
Description:
There is limited previous work in this region, which includes seismic lines and limited multibeam mapping (Exon, 2005). The new bathymetric and magnetic data will provide information on the detailed microplate boundaries, the ocean continent boundary and provide important information about the tectonic evolution of the Eastern Australian margin during the break-up of Gondwana. Additionally, the map data will feed into Parks Australia management needs for IUCN Special Purpose Zone (Trawl) areas located as priority mapping areas. The bathymetric data will be contributed to the Seabed 2030 initiative. The Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) was operated continuously to determine current vectors and velocity to 800m depth
