Acronym: | Marine habitat rehabilitation |
Investigator(s): | Mark Green
CSIRO Oceans & Atmosphere - Hobart [details] |
Description: | 1. CMR will implement a transplantation program of marine algae, Caulerpa sp, as a method of rehabilitating the critical habitat of the endangered spotted handfish, Branchionichthys hirsutus. 2. Quantitative surveys will be undertaken to estimate the density and population stucture of spotted handfish at three previously sampled sites. 3. Quantitative surveys will be undertaken at two additional regions to investigate the density, distribution and population structure of spotted handfish over a broader area. 4. The density of Asterias amurensis and critical habitat will be investigated at all survey sites. 5. An experiment to test a mathematical model of diver efficiency versus search zone will be run. 6. CMR will provide DPIWE with report detailing work, analysis and results. |
