| SO 8/87 [details] |
T. Davis & J. May (CSIRO) | Soela cruise SO 8/87 was undertaken for a tuna larval survey in the east Indian Ocean, within the boundaries of 15-18 degrees S and 114-117 degrees E. Cruise aims were to investigate coarse-scale variation in abundance and growth rate of southern bluefin tuna larvae and their relationship with oceanographic processes; to determine the vertical distribution of scombrid larvae in relation to the thermocline; to investigate the relation between food availability, tuna larvae abundance, diet and growth at selected sites; to investigate the oceanography of the area; to collect larvae for electrophoresis; to test light trapping for tuna larvae and to compare catches with ichthyoplankton tows and to deploy a satellite tracked buoy at the first station having significant numbers of SBT larvae. |
