W. Ponder (Australian Museum) including other PI's Cruise FR10/86 was undertaken to survey benthic invertebrates, test new water sampler, recover recording magnetometer packages and seabird observations in the Tasman Sea. Sampling methods included dredgers, benthic sledge and CTD casts. Samples collected consisted of animals, mud and siltstone. Water samples were collected using the new water sampler and sample separator, and is a viable retrieval system for high density chemical oceanographic data collection. The three ocean bottom magnetometer packages deployed on cruise FR 05/86 were all successfully recovered. Thirty five species of oceanic bird, and one species of shorebird, were identified during the trip.
