Vesicular plagioclase-phyric pillow basalt. Large pillows (0.5 m) with smooth glassy outer surface. 10-15% tiny vesicles throughout with ~5% larger spherical vesicles to 3 mm in bands but mainly in the pillow centre. ~5% clumps of plagioclase, plagioclase + olivine and lesser plagioclase + olivine + clinopyroxene, which are less abundant near piloow margins. | ||

Similar to 53-01, but with significantly fewer phenocrysts. 2-3% plagioclase, minor olivine and no clinopyroxene. Often chilled on both sides with highly vesicular glass on the interior side. Small (<<1 mm) vesicles are abundant, but larger vesicles are less abundant and more interconnected. |
