---|---|---|
Large block of dark grey lava , tending olive grey and with interweaved mud at its margins. Highly vesicular, with vesicles decreasing in size towards the margin. Locally the margin appears glassy. Highly porphyritic, with very large clinopyroxene and olivine phenocrysts up to 2 cm across, and smaller plagioclase. In some cases the phenocrysts protrude into the marginal mud. Crystals are euhedral and mostly discrete, suggesting disaggregation from a very loose mush zone. | ||
As for 49-01, but more phyric. No apparent margin. Rounded cobble. | ||
White aphyric pumice. Highly vesicular and essentially fresh. | ||
