Pale grey aphyric pumice, weak Fe-staining locally on surfaces. Some blocks show gradation to pale pink. Interpreted as recent float from the arc.
Highly plagioclase-phyric large pillow. Vesicular (5-10%), with spherical vesicles ~2 mm in the interior grading to <<1 mm on the exterior. Weathered friable glass crust. Equant plagioclase phenocrysts (20%) 1-2 mm in diameter, sparser towards the margins. Minor olivine phenocrysts <<1 mm in diameter both singly and in clusters with plagioclase.
Similar plagioclase-phyric lava to 37-02, but with larger vesicles to 4 mm across, banded, and with clumps of plagioclase up to 3-4 mm across. Minor olivine. Glassy margin 5-10 mm thick, of which only the outer 1-2 mm is glass.
Similar to 37-06, but larger vesicles.
Sparsely plagioclase-phyric (2-3%), with ~20% vesicles <1 mm across.
Aphyric lava. 20% vesicles in bands, ranging from irregular and ~1 mm across to spherical and <<1 mm across.
Similar to 37-03, but with 15-20% larger vesicles 3-4 mm across. Also fewer plagioclase clots (~5%). |
