Contents | Top (m) | Base (m) |
---|---|---|
Black olivine-plagioclase basalt, 5% euhedral olivine and 10% plagioclase phenocrysts. Pull-aparts to 2 cm long. Surface weakly weathered black. | ||
Bulk bucket of altered grey lavas. | ||
Dark grey plagioclase andesite. ~10% plagioclase phenocrysts and trace olivine and pyroxene. Some plagioclase-clinopyroxene-olivine crystal clots. Non-vesicular. Surface totally weathered to Fe clays <1 mm thick. | ||
As for 14-03, but more weathered with a surface layer up to 3 mm thick and minor discoloration along fractures. | ||
Black plagioclase basalt. 30% plagioclase phenocrysts up to 5 mm across, and trace pyroxene. Highly vesicular. Surface weakly weathered black. | ||
Plagioclase-rich gabbro, with 60% plagioclase. Grain size ~3 mm. Fe-stained fractures and bands concentric to the boulder surface. | ||
As for 14-01, but plagioclase is slightly finer grained and better sorted. Boulder surface is Fe-stained in fractures. | ||
Blue-grey dacite, moderately vesicular, with trace plagioclase phenocrysts. Ranges from fresh to chloritised equivalents. | ||
As for 14-01, but possibly more olivine and with vesicles being more planar. | ||
White pumice, aphyric with pyroxene microphenocrysts. Locally Fe-stained surface. | ||
Chlorite altered plagioclase-pyroxene andesite. Altered 0.5-1.0 cm rim, with fresh 2 x 2 x 2 cm kernel. | ||
Medium grey to white pyritic breccia. Bleached volcanic fragments in a quartz-pyrite-sulfate(?)-magnetite matrix. | ||
Grey sericite-chlorite altered volcanic (dacite). | ||
Grey chlorite-sericite altered volcanic, less sericitic than 14-13. Weakly plagioclase phyric (originally dacite). | ||
Chlorite altered plagioclase-phyric andesite. 1 cm thick red oxidised chlorite rind, chlorite-altered 1 cm band, ?fresh? kernel. | ||
Dark grey weakly chlorite altered vesicular dacite. | ||
Chlorite-sericite altered dacite. | ||
Chlorite-silica altered aphyric medium grey dacite. ~1% very fine grained disseminated pyrite on outer rim, oxidised at seafloor. | ||
Quartz-pyroxene phyric white pumice, some light Fe-staining. | ||
Bulk bucket of fresh black lavas. | ||
Dark grey plagioclase-rich (~25%) basalt. Plagioclase phenocrysts to 4 mm across. Vesicles in bands. Surface weakly Fe-stained. |
