Taxon Notes:

This species was previously included in the Indo-Pacific humpbacked dolphin, Sousa chinensis, which has recently been shown to be a complex of four geographically distinct species. Sousa sahulensis is only known from northern and eastern Australia, and southern New Guinea. See Jefferson & Rosenbaum, 2014.
