Taxon Notes:Updated from Manta alfredi after the phylogenetic study of White et al 2017 showed the genus Manta to nest within genus Mobula (ie Manta is a junior synonym of Mobula).
Scientific Name Notes:M. alfredi was resurrected from the synonymy of M. birostris by Marshall et al 2009 (Zootaxa). M. alfredi is widely distributed from the western Indian Ocean to the eastern Pacific, but apparently rare in the eastern Atlantic. In Australian waters it has been recorded from northern Qld southwards to the Solitary Islands (NSW) and also central WA (south to Perth), but it may be more widespread.
Common/Standard Name Notes: provisional common name (species not in standard names list)
