| Taxon Notes: | Last et al 2016 (in Last & Yearsley, 2016 Rays of the world: Supplementary information) resurrected the genus Narcinops Whitley, 1940 for the Australian numbfishes based on morphological and molecular data. The correct species name is ornatus as ornata is an adjective and words ending in ops are masculine as defined in the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (D. Hoese, pers. comm. 14 Jan 2026). | ||||
