Scientific Name Notes: | Last & Stevens,1994 (as Apristurus sp E) originally considered this species to be endemic to Australia. Kawauchi et al 2008 reported a range extension for Apristurus pinguis (originally described from the East China Sea) that extended its range to eastern Australia and New Zealand (South Pacific Ocean) and the West Australian Ridge (Indian Ocean). Hence, the current taxonomy suggests that Apristurus pinguis is a single widespread species. | ||||||
