Expected species depth range is from 50 to 200 m.
Taxon Notes:Known from west of Exmouth Peninsula (22 23 'S, 113 40'E) north-east to at least off Bathurst Island in the Northern Territory at depths of 125–229 m (White et al 2023). Previously confused with Heterodontus zebra (Gray, 1831), which is known from the Banda Sea northwards to Japan, but absent from Australia.
