Taxon Notes:Previously considered to be a wide-spread species in the Indo-Pacific region, recent genetic work has shown it to be a species complex. True C. canalicularis appears to be restricted to the western Pacific, see Fedosov & Puilandre, 2020. However, Australian material was not included in the recent study, so the status of Australian material previously identified as this species remains uncertain, and may prove to be distinct when studied in detail.
