Taxon Notes:This species (as Crassatella torresi) was described from Torres Strait by E.A. Smith in 1885 from RV "Challenger" material. Huber (2010) Compendium of Bivalves, stated that it has not been found since in Australasian waters, considered the type locality as erroneous, and synonymised it with the Caribbean species Crassinella martinicensis. It was recently rediscovered in Queensland, confirming that the original type locality is correct and that it is a valid, distinct species
