Scientific Name Notes:The identity of Australian material assigned to this species has been questioned recently (see Whitehead, 2010 Australian Shell News 137:3-4). While there are some differences between Australian specimens and those from other parts of Asia, a detailed study of a large range of specimens from all areas is needed, including genetic data, to determine the true status of the different populations. At this stage, a conservative approach is adopted here, and both Anadara bessialis and the older name Arca thackwayi are still regarded as synonyms of Anadara granosa.
