Taxon Notes:Originally described from the Mediterranean, and also recorded widely in the North Atlantic and North Sea. Numerous records in most temperate to tropical seas worldwide. It is highly likely that this is a species complex, also that some records from outside of the North Atlantic/Mediterranean region are mis-identifications and/or the result of accidental introductions.
Scientific Name Notes:Records of this species from Australia actually refer to Sternaspis spinosa, and records from New Zealand need to be verified.
