Taxon Notes:

The Mediterranean species Spirobranchus polytrema has been widely recorded from the Indo-Pacific region. However, it is highly likely that S. polytrema s.s. is restricted to the Mediterranean region, and records from other areas are likely to be distinct species. The group is in urgent need of revision, preferably based on genetic work.
