Taxon Notes:This species was originally described from Europe where it is widely recorded from the North Sea to the Mediterranean. It was accidentally introduced into Australian and New Zealand waters, and is now widespread in southern and eastern Australia, from the Perth (WA) area to Botany Bay. Other records from outside of Europe also possibly represent accidental introductions.
