Taxon Notes:

Originally described from northern Europe, and widely recorded from from the North and South Atlantic, the Mediterranean Sea, and eastern Pacific. Böggemann (2005) in his review of the family did not record this species from from the western Pacific or Indian Ocean, including Australia. Records of this species from this region may be accidental introductions, or they may be mis-identifications of other species.
