Taxon Notes:This species is likely native to Mexico and Ecuador. The only authenticated records of this species from Australia are based on hull-fouling specimens from ships recently arrived from Mexico. There is no evidence that there is a breeding population of this species in Australian waters. All other records of this species from Australian waters actually refer to the native species H. amri and H. nikae, or to the Indo-Pacific species H. tuberculata.
